Affordability Assessment

💵 | Price Range: $15 - $500

Madewell is considered a mid-range to premium brand. Basic organic cotton tees and accessories start at $15. Their denim line typically retails between $110 and $150. Leather wear and premium outerwear can go up to $500.

📈 | Value for Money: Good

They are considered a moderate to high value for money mainly because their jeans can withstand hundreds of wears and retain their shape. Madewell focuses on using high-quality fabrics and retaining longevity of their clothes and leather.

💡 | Affordability Tools

Madewell offers 15% off for students, teachers, first responders, medical professionals, and military members. They also offer a really good denim trade-in program. Bring in any brand of any old pair of jeans for $20 off of a new full priced pair. The old jeans are recycled.

Adaptability Assessment

🦾 | Inclusivity

Madewell does not currently have a dedicated "Adaptive" line for people with physical disabilities but many of their clothes use elastic for a comfortable fit. They have enforced policies in place to increase workforce inclusivity. For the third year in a row, they scored 100% on the HRC corporate equality index, which recognizes Madewell as a best place to work for LGBTQ+ individuals.

♿️ | Comfort

Their denim often features "Magic Pocket" technology for a flattering yet flexible fit. Many of their jeans use "TENCEL™" or "Instacozy" fabrics designed for high stretch and softness.

Sustainability Assessment

🌍 | Environmental Impact

Madewell is a high-volume retailer so they contribute to the fast fashion cycle of waste. Nonetheless, they have significantly reduced water usage in denim production, and use recycled polyester and cashmere.

🤝 | Labor Conditions

90% of Madewell denim is Fair Trade Certified™, which ensures workers are paid a premium. The transparency regarding the rest of their global supply chain is still developing.

🐾 | Animal Welfare:

The brand has a no fur and no exotic skins policy. They are committed to the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) and source leather primarily from Leather Working Group (LWG) certified tanneries, which are committed to environmental and ethical practices. They offer vegan-friendly cotton and synthetic options of leathers and furs.
