The Economic Report 

  • On April 29, 2026, the Federal Reserve kept U.S. interest rates unchanged at 3.5%–3.75%. The Fed said inflation remained elevated partly because of higher global energy prices, while uncertainty surrounding developments in the Middle East continued to complicate the economic outlook.   • The first major estimate of U.S. economic growth released on April 30 showed that real GDP grew at a 2.0% annualized rate during the first quarter of 2026, compared with 0.5% in the fourth quarter of 2025. Investment, exports, consumer spending, and government spending contributed to the increase, although consumer spending growth slowed.   • U.S. consumer confidence edged higher in April 2026, although Americans remained concerned about inflation and higher gas prices.
