The Economic Report
A government shutdown began on October 1st and, at this moment, has still not ended, becoming the longest shutdown in American history. This has led to a lack of data on the state of the economy, making predictions for the following months much harder.
The shutdown also limits government spending, which has led to a restriction on SNAP benefits.
Additionally, government workers are unable to receive pay for the length of the shutdown, making them a month behind in wages.
Both of these factors have led to a decrease in the GDP, which is the sum of investments, government spending (which is lower), consumption, and net exports.
